What we’ve seen so far from Battlefield 1 is its multiplayer. At E3, in the recent beta, players had the chance to fight each other on large maps using weapons, tanks, and planes from World War I. However, DICE’s latest title does have a single-player component, and the studio released a trailer for it today.
The story will feature five soldiers from different countries. On the British side, there are two characters to play on different fronts: One is a pilot trying to outmaneuver German planes in order to stay alive on the battlefield, and the other soldier is part of a tank unit that will make its way behind enemy lines in France. In the Alps, you’ll witness the elite Italian units fight the Austrians in an effort to take a fort high in the mountains.
There’s also an Anzac runner that delivers messages between units, but also takes part in the Gallipolli campaign, which involves a beachhead assault. The final story in the campaign centers on a Bedouin woman in an Arab tribe. With technological advances, the Ottoman Empire is taking out these small tribes, but with the help of the legendary Lawrence of Arabia, there’s a chance to defeat the powerful empire.
It’s still unclear as to how DICE will weave the five perspectives into a single story. If the trailer is any indication, however, each chapter is filled to the brim with action. Whether it’s in the air, in a tank, or on horseback, the campaign is an appropriate starting point to check out what Battlefield 1 has to offer. Before you pick up the game next month, be sure to check its system requirements to see if your current build can run it.
